Juventus scored late to beat Lyon 1-0 and take a big stride toward the Europa League semifinals while Benfica and FC Basel also won to move within sight of a second straight appearance in the last four on Thursday. Leonardo Bonucci poked home Juventus 85th-minute winner in its quarterfinal first leg at Stade Gerland, keeping the Italian league leaders and competition favourites on course to reach the final in their own stadium on May 14. "Its a pity," said Lyon midfielder Maxime Gonalons, whose team was hanging on in the second half, "we almost had a perfect game." Benfica, beaten by Chelsea in last seasons final, could be back in the showpiece match next month after Eduardo Salvios 48th-minute goal sealed a 1-0 win at AZ Alkmaar. Matias Delgado scored twice in five minutes late in the first half and Valentin Stocker added a third goal in second-half stoppage in Basels 3-0 win over Valencia that was played in an empty stadium at St. Jakob Park. UEFA ordered the first leg to be played without fans as punishment after Basel supporters temporarily stopped play during its 2-1 win at Salzburg two weeks for throwing fireworks on the pitch. In the other last-eight matchup, Porto beat Sevilla 1-0 at home thanks to Eliaquim Mangalas flying header from Ricardo Quaresmas superbly delivered cross in the 31st minute. Steven Defour and Quaresma struck efforts against the post for Porto, which finished with 10 men after midfielder Fernando was given two yellow cards in a matter of seconds in the 87th minute for firstly pulling an opponents shirt and then kicking the ball away. With Porto striker Jackson Martinez also missing the second leg because of suspension, two-time winner Sevilla is far from out of the home-and-away series. All the second legs will be played next Thursday. An ultimately successful night for Juventus was soured by the sight of Carlos Tevez leaving the pitch in the 55th minute with what appeared to be a groin strain. The Argentina striker missed two of a handful of good chances for Juve to stay without a goal in European competition since April 2009, when he was playing for Manchester United in the Champions League. Lyon battled gamely but was forced on the back foot in the second half, with Sebastian Giovinco and Mauricio Isla having shots saved by Lyon goalkeeper Anthony Lopes and Mirko Vucinic blazing over for Juventus from inside the six-yard box. Just when it seemed Lyon would survive with a draw, Bonucci capitalized on a poor clearance from Lyon defender Bakary Kone to shoot into the roof of the net from close range. "We did not expect Lyon to defend that well," Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba said. "They surprised us in the first half. Things improved a bit in the second half, the team clicked." Juventus is the only Italian club still involved in a European competition. DaMarcus Beasley Jersey . - A week after a late-game debacle on defence, the Pittsburgh Steelers showed they can finish. Chris Wondolowski Jersey . Mueller is the grandson of the late Ron Lancaster, the Hall-of-Fame quarterback and longtime head coach in the CFL. Last season, Mueller was quarterbacks coach of the University of Regina Rams, his alma mater. http://www.usasoccerauthority.com/matt-hedges-usa-jersey/. The bout served as the headlining matchup of Saturdays "UFC Fight Night: Brown vs. Silva" event, which took place at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati. It was Silva who looked well on his way to victory in the early going, delivering a pair of crushing kicks to the body that sent Brown crashing to the floor, doubled over in pain. Zack Steffen Jersey .9 million deal Thursday. The 25-year McGinn had 19 goals and 19 assists in 79 games last season in helping the Avalanche tie a franchise record with 52 wins. Dax McCarty Jersey . The attacking midfielder arrives on a free transfer from Spains Malaga. The 28-year-old joins Scottish striker Kenny Miller and Argentine midfielder Matias Laba as designated players on the Whitecaps roster. Each week, well take a look at some top performers from the CFL, with an eye to looking ahead to some matchups that could be favourable for TSN Fantasy Football, CFL Edition, presented by Joseph Abboud. Here are some of the best from Week 11 and players to watch for Week 12: TOP PERFORMERS Matt Nichols, QB, Edmonton (25-for-43, 333 YDS, 3 TD, 1 rush TD vs. Calgary) - With Mike Reilly nursing a thumb injury, Nichols stepped in and put up big numbers (particularly in the fourth quarter) in a losing effort against the Stampeders, connecting for more than 100 yards receiving with both Adarius Bowman and A.J. Guyton. Anthony Allen, RB Saskatchewan (136 YDS, 1 TD, 20 touches at Winnipeg) - There is competition for carries in Riderville, but Allen has done his part to earn the featured role, rushing for 236 yards and three touchdowns in the last three games. Hes now the third leading rusher in the league, behind only Nic Gribsky and Brandon Whitaker. Zach Collaros, QB, Hamilton (30-for-43, 338 YDS, 2 TD, 1 INT at Montreal) - Getting Collaros back in the lineup has certainly upgraded the Tiger-Cats attack, as hes passed for 655 yards and three touchdowns in two games since returning. Better quarterback play also has positive effects when it comes to the production of Hamiltons receiving corps. PLAYERS TO WATCH IN WEEK 12 Mossis Maddu, RB, Hamilton - Getting regular work with C.ddddddddddddJ. Cable hurt, Madu has been a big part of the TiCats offence over the past couple weeks, gaining 258 yards from scrimmage, including 136 yards on 15 touches against Montreal last week. No touchdowns yet, but if the yards keep accruing, scores will come soon enough. Tino Sunseri, QB, Saskatchewan - Too soon to be handing out recommendations, since Sunseri has attempted 43 passes in his CFL career, but the Pittsburgh product is likely to get a chance at regular playing time with Darian Durant out. In limited action, Sunseri has completed 62.8% of his passes for 319 yards and a touchdown, but spot duty and a starting job are not the same thing, so it will be interesting to see if Sunseri can handle the spotlight. A.J. Guyton, SB, Edmonton - The first year CFL receiver, out of Central Florida, had the first 100-yard receiving game of his career against Calgary, catching six passes for 111 yards and a touchdown. If he gives the Eskimos an option to complement league-leading receiver Adarius Bowman in the passing game, then all the better for whichever quarterback is calling the shots.
